Music Social Networking App
Designed a mobile app that helps emerging artists connect, collaborate, and present themselves professionally in the music industry.
Year :
2025
Industry :
Social Networking
Client :
Rebel Riot Records Ltd | EXHO LTD
Project Duration :
3 months
Overview: Problem Statement & Solution:
Emerging and independent artists struggle to present themselves professionally and build meaningful connections with music industry professionals.
EXHO is a mobile app designed to connect emerging artists with other creatives and industry professionals. The aim was to give independent artists a professional space to network, showcase work, and collaborate.
After discussing the client's needs and my proposal, we agreed with the following for this project:
Conduct Competitor Research
This was a collaborate effort between myself and the client, to compare the UI and user journey of other social networking/music platforms.
App screens & UI system
The brand identity and lo-fi wireframes were crafted prior to my involvement. My job was to elevate and enhance the product further. This included designing all screens and building a scalable design system.
Handover to developer
Once I completed the deliverables, and the client signed off on them, I collaborated with the app developer and tidied up any loose ends before official handover.
Below is a snapshot of the design system I built and iterated
Actions:
This includes brand colours, illustrations, and components ( buttons, pills, input fields, toggle/switches etc.) All layers and variables were renamed for the app developer to extract and export the code using a React AI plugin.

Actions:
I benchmarked leading networking and music apps, analysing their user journey, features, and UI elements.
I then built out the design system using variable colour and sizing tokens for consistency, and used AI tools in Figma to accelerate wireframing and content generation.
Designed the app interfaces to later collaborate with the app developer to iterate designs and develop a clean, modern interface with strong brand presence.
My Design Process
Discovery & Market Research
Analysed competitor apps and interviewed emerging artists to understand unmet needs in networking and self promotion.
Define Experience Principles
Established clear UX goals around simplicity, credibility, and community driven interaction.
Information Architecture
Structured core features such as profiles, messaging, and discovery to support intuitive navigation.
Concepting & Prototyping
Designed and tested early flows to validate onboarding, collaboration features, and profile presentation.
Design System Foundations
Built scalable components, colour tokens, and typography rules to ensure consistency as the product grows.
Developer Collaboration
Worked closely with the developer to refine interactions, manage constraints, and ensure accurate implementation.
Below is a snapshot of the app prototype in Figma, split into 10 key user journeys that interconnect:

Challenge :
Independent artists often struggle to present themselves professionally and make genuine connections in the industry. The challenge was to design an experience that feels creative and credible while remaining easy to use for users with different tech skill levels.
Working solo as the UX/UI designer meant managing everything from research and wireframing to final design and developer handoff. I also had to undergo many UI and design system iterations due to dev/technical constraints and new client requests.
Result :
View Prototype
EXHO launched with a cohesive brand and intuitive mobile experience that resonated with its audience. The app’s design system now supports future scalability, and early user feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
Key Takeaways :
End to End Ownership
Owning the full product lifecycle strengthened my confidence in taking ideas from early concept through to final delivery.
Designing for a Real Community
This project highlighted the importance of empathy when designing for creatives who need tools that feel authentic and supportive.
Building for Scale Early
Creating a solid design system from the start reinforced how early structure enables faster growth and future iteration.
